It was the idea of getting young people interested in classical music which first prompted me to create a short, melodic, accessible symphony.
A sinfonietta.
A bit like taking symphonies back to how they started.
My Sinfonietta No. 1, sub-titled "Silver" because in the second and third movements I've alluded to melodies from "Silver's Ghost", is a three-movement symphony for full orchestra. Each movement is around three minutes long, the sort of length at which my target audience typically streams pieces of music. It's not challenging, either to play or to listen to, because I wanted to make it accessible, but I hope it's both interesting and exciting, especially when performed by a full orchestra!
The world première took place in Reading in October. The USA première was in New York in February, and the Canadian première is in May in Ottawa.
Midi audio is available on Spotify, i-Tunes and the like. Listen to that here
